How it works

The scorecard method starts from the average pre-money valuation of comparable startups in your region, then adjusts it by how you compare on seven weighted factors. 100% means “average”, 150% means clearly better.

If you have recurring revenue, the ARR multiple method adds a second view. The result is a range, because valuation is negotiated, not calculated.

Formula

  • Scorecard = Regional average pre-money × Σ (weight × your score vs average)
  • Weights: team 30%, market 25%, product 15%, competition 10%, marketing/sales 10%, need for funding 5%, other 5%
  • Revenue method = ARR × multiple (±25%)
  • Range = lowest to highest of the methods

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get the regional average pre-money valuation?

From recent rounds you know of in your country and stage, published ecosystem reports, or by asking two or three local angels. Use a number you could defend in a meeting.

Which valuation method do investors actually use?

At pre-seed and seed most investors work backwards from round size and the stake they need, then sanity-check with comparables. Methods like the scorecard help you anchor that conversation.

What ARR multiple should I use?

Use multiples from recent private deals at your stage and growth rate, not public SaaS multiples. Faster growth and higher net retention justify higher multiples.
